Dukes Ice Hockey Rumors

Rumors have been swirling that Duquesne University may allocate additional funding and grant varsity status to its club ice hockey program sometime in the near future with a move into the NCAA.
Western Pennsylvania is already home to two NCAA Division I Men's Ice Hockey programs -- the Mercyhurst College Lakers and the Robert Morris University Colonials -- so a move into NCAA Ice Hockey would keep Duquesne competitive with these local rivals, especially with Robert Morris -- a natural rival as an overall NCAA Division I university located in the Pittsburgh area.
Duquesne's close proximity to the soon-to-be-constructed multipurpose arena in Uptown Pittsburgh may be a factor in helping the university to decide what direction to move with its ice hockey team. Duquesne Ice Hockey may very well make itself a tenant in this new building, along with the NHL's Pittsburgh Penguins.
The "Ice Dukes" -- a men's club, or non-varsity, team that competes in the College Hockey Mid-America conference of the American Collegiate Hockey Association's Division I level -- was its conference champion for the 2006-07 season.

This would be GREAT!

RMU has great facilities and gets better press when they joined the NCAA, but the Dukes have had abetter team than theirs, Pitt's and WVU's.

Playing at the new arena would be fantastic for the Dukes!!! PITTSBURGH IS A HOCKEY TOWN! Let's ride it!!

Duquesne Wins 2006-2007 Playoff Tournament
Congratulations to the Duquesne Dukes for winning the 2006-2007 College Hockey Mid-America playoff tournament. Duquesne played great hockey during the last several weeks of the season and peaked at just the right time after a rocky first semester. In the first game, the team took advantage of some critical power play opportunities to defeat Pitt 5-2 in front of a packed house on Pitt's home ice, the BladeRunners Ice Complex in Harmarville. In the semi-finals, Duquesne upset the stunned second-seeded IUP 11-1. And in the championship game, Duquesne busted open a close game in the third period to defeat top-seeded W&J 7-3 on an empty net goal. In other playoff action, ACHA Division 1 Tournament bound W&J defeated Slippery Rock 2-1 in a nail biter a day after Slippery Rock upended Youngstown State 6-3. Thanks to all of our fans and we hope to see you next season.

That would be awesome, I would love to see the Dukes play more competitive hockey in Pittsburgh. It would be even more incredible to see them play at the new facility in Uptown.

GO DUKES!
